Gordon Douglas

Director estadounidense de cine



Nació el 15 de diciembre de 1907 en Nueva York (Estados Unidos).

Su llegada a Hollywood se produjo y trabajó en un primer momento como actor ayudante y creador de gags para el productor Hal Roach.

Se hizo un especialista en las comedias burlescas de la serie La pandilla (Our Gang [30 titulos entre 1936 y 1939]), dirigió por fin su primer largometraje en 1939: Zenobia (Zenobia), conocido porque en él aparecen Oliver Hardy y Harry Langdon.

Tras otro largometraje cómico con Hardy y Stan Laurel (Marinos a la fuerza [Saps at Sea], 1940), pasó por diferentes estudios.

Acrecentó su estilo en películas como Corazón de hielo [Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye], 1950; la aventura, La novia de acero [The Iron Mistress] 1952; la ciencia-ficción, La humanidad en peligro [Them!, 1954,  y sobre todo en el western, Quince balas [Fort Dobbs] 1958; Gold of the Seven Saints, 1961; Río Conchos [id.] 1964, Chuka [id.], 1967.

Antes de retirarse dirigió entre otras, Sylvia (Sylvia, 1965) y Harlow, la rubia platino (Harlow, id.) ambas para el lucimiento de Carroll Baker, tres películas para un Frank Sinatra ya maduro (Hampa dorada [Tony Rome], 1967; La mujer de cemento [Lady in Cement], 1968; y El detective [The Detective], 1968, en la que su sentido visual se pone al servicio de una psicología sutil y una intriga fascinante) y otra para Sidney Poitier (Ahora me llaman Mr Tibbs [ They Call Me Mr. Tibbs], 1970).

Gordon Douglas falleció el 29 de septiembre de 1993 en Los Ángeles, California.
